Glasgow hotels report ‘record’ December occupancy

Average occupancy up 6% on December 2012 though room rates dipped 5.3%. Glasgow hotels enjoyed a “record” December with average occupancy up six per cent on the previous year to an average of 71 per cent new figures suggest.

The LJ Forecaster report, compiled by tourism market research specialists LJ Research, said December hotel occupancy levels in Glasgow were the highest recorded since its month research began in 1999.

Its research suggests on six separate nights in December, occupancy in Glasgow reached 90 per cent or more and peaked at 97 per cent on December 7.

The LJ Forecaster report states December was the seventh consecutive month of “record-breaking occupancy rates for Glasgow’s hotels”.

However, the report found high occupancy rates “were at the expense of average room rates”, which dipped 5.3 per cent year on year to £61.22 (December 2012 average: £64,66).
